Was Lost, Now Found

Okay, first of all, I have to apologize for not writing in like forever!!  I am unfortunately not very “Blogg savey” and could not figure out how to log back into the account.  You see, I had it set to automatically be signed in…. then my computer crashed!  Anyway. I am back now!  My new laptop has a special “blog program” so once connected I’m good to go.

Boat Swept under the bridge!!

Okay, so I am sitting at home eating dinner and I get a text.... "your boat is about 30ft from the bridge". Well, I knew it had moved some, so I called my boat neighbor to verify. He answers and freaks out! "Yeah, its right by the Bridge!!!!!". Okay, I tell both of them that I'm on my way. I run out of the house, no jacket, (it's Miami, who ever needs a jacket??) its freezing and windy. So we all meet at the pier. We hop into my friends dinghy and motor over to the boat. It is touching the bridge now and the current is still strong from the tide going out.

Okay, game plan. My one friend hops up onto the boat to pull up the anchor and me and my other friend tie the boat to the dinghy. The plan is to pull it back over where it will be safe and re-set the anchor (if there is one...). Everything is tied, everyone is in place.. okay, go.

are we moving? Yeah, I think so. whoa! no! The dinghy is being swept away by the current faster than the boat! The dinghy gets swept around the side of the boat and under the bridge first. Nothing we can do.. we are going under the bridge, we are being pushed toward one of the pylons! My friend on the boat tries to reach up and grab the underside of the bridge and steer us away from the pylon. He can't, the current is too strong. We barely miss! Whew! On the other side the anchor hooks on something. ahhhhh. Breath. We have a chance to regroup.

The new plan is to turn on the motor and set the anchor. After a couple pulls the motor starts right up. We go to a good spot. Set the anchor and hope for the best.

I'm going to check on it first thing in the morning....

Sweet Dreams for now.

Background

Hello,

I have been sailing one time for about a week. My Aunt took us on the Chesapeake Bay. I loved it. I remember hanging off the side and getting splashed by the waves. That's it. The extent of my "sailing" experience. Oh yeah, I also had a canoe for several years.....

So, a few months ago, my friend had a dinner party. He lives on a catamaran. We spent the afternoon and evening eating and sitting on the boat. Watched an amazing sunset and moonrise. The sky was spectacular! He told me that he just anchors the boat and that you don't have to pay rent or anything. Anyone can live on a boat anywhere in the world for free! I was hooked. I decided that was the life for me.

So I spent the next month or so reading books and looking for boats online. I decided on a sailboat since gas for the motor boats is expensive. I am wanting to have a completely naturally powered boat. Solar and wind.

So, two months later I won a bid on ebay for a Cal 27. $1500.00 Sweet! I now own a boat. It was in Melbourne Florida, about a 4hr drive from South Beach. Not far, shouldn't be too hard to get here..... so it begins! The adventures of "Captain" Kasey!
